Phillips (John) School (first) is established.

1844

It is located at the former English High School at 65 Anderson Street. It becomes the first integrated grammar school in Boston in 1855. Mary Eliza Mahoney is one of the students. The school moves to a new building on Phillips Street and is renamed in 1861.* The original building is subsequently converted to residential use.
